I thought it was about time to start updating you on the owl activity. As you all know we were concerned that we would not have them around this year...........but we were wrong!!! :)
If we are on the same schedule as on the years past we have owlets growing in the nest box!!
This is a picture I took through the kitchen window yesterday. At this point the owlets are moving around in the box and it is fun to see when Hootie flies back to the box she will pause either on a branch, but more often the perch before stepping in!!
Easter Sunday we were treated to a appearance and vocal show by both Hootie and Blowfish2....I am still calling him 2 because he is much more skiddish than in past years. Where before they would both sit and stare us down, now he flies away whenever we move closer!!
Last night while Dave was out diligently working on his boat(stay tuned for a boat update soon!!) the owls met up for a little dinner date in the tree just over the basketball hoop. They had a little chat, shared a little kiss and off he went. She stuck around for a few more minutes before she headed back to a tree farther into the woods where he was waiting!
By the way they are behaving and having watched them from both inside and out of the nest box for almost 6 yrs now we can assume we have owlets. In the past we have 2 one year and then the next it has been 3 so I am going to ask that you start sending your name ideas now!!
We should start seeing them more often now, as the owlets grow she will spend more time out of the box, but still close by to keep watch.
I can tell you that next spring we will once again have a up and running box camera as I ham having a REALLY hard time not knowing what is happening in there!!!:)
